The Beatren:

Lifespan: 90 Earth yrs

Adulthood begins at 20 Earth yrs

Avg Height: 6’ 2” (1.9 M)

Avg Weight: 145 lbs (65.8 Kg)

Home planet: Dex is a planet with an interesting mix of dark plant life and extremely light-colored earth and sand. It is a planet that has four seasons in its temperate climates, but the Beatren lived naturally in the regions closer to the equator. Dex is smaller than Earth and stands at around 0.9 Gs. A day is 17.6 Earth hours and a year is 504 Earth Days.

Biology: Beatren are comparable to both mammals and reptiles. They are carnivorous and cold-blooded, so they were naturally found in the tropical regions of Dex. The camouflage in the foliage well with the planet’s distinct black and white color scheme. This species has the ability to swim but they aren’t fond of getting wet.

The males have spikes on their shoulders and necks that they like flaunting. Their jewelry is concentrated on the upper torso/neck area. The Beatren not only find their necks to be slender and beautiful (for both males and females) but other species have commented on it as well.

Beatren tend to get a rise out of inflicting pain and violence is a part of their life. On Dex, most of the residents are skilled hunters. Animals are constantly being bred and released onto the planet to keep the population of game high. Beatren have even adopted fishing (thus overcoming their natural fear of water) in order to help quench their thirst for hunting and killing their prey. Surprisingly, Beatren aren’t known to get in fights with each other. To impress a female, males won’t hurt each other, rather “decorate” themselves with pelts and other possessions like some animalistic fashion show. I’m picturing that now and many, many things are coming to mind.

History: The Beatren have a history of being hot-headed and aggressive. They were not the only species on Dex that were sentient and the Beatren took the other sapient species as a threat. This other species are known as Plarks, and are drastically different in behavior. Plark-kind made it to space after the disastrous relationship with the Beatren, against all odds. For thousands of years the two species were at war. For the Beatren, the goal was world domination. For Plark-kind, a shared world with mutually beneficial relationships were in mind. While the Beatren were stocking up their resources to hand a massive attack to their enemy, the Plarks surrendered. They couldn’t keep up with the Beatren’s advances and they unable retreat to space yet.

While under the Beatren’s rule, yet another alien race posed a threat to planet Dex. Dex was to be wiped clean by a few slimy pirates and turned into a retreat for space-faring races. Luckily, the Beatren were ready for an attack and the pirates never assumed a species barely searching the stars with telescopes would have this much firepower. The pirates’ ill-prepared ships were destroyed and news of this incident spread across their galaxy when distress calls flew through space. Dex was given funding to advance the Beatren and Plark to space. When the two races were registered in the universal database, the Plarks were reluctantly released by the Beatren upon agreeing to receive resources by other space-faring species. Any resources given to the Beatren had to be done on the lines that they were the only sentient species benefiting from the technology. Resources significant enough to sustain an entire species is a huge sacrifice, even to a wealthy alien race. The Plark were kicked off of the planet by the Beatren, but Plark-kind are known to be generous and likable to a wide variety of aliens. They along were able to create strong relationships with neighboring species and offer reliable work for a fraction of its worth. Plark were poor at the time and their contagious, positive outlook earned them resources while Beatren invented, yet proved to be a more bloodthirsty species.

Usual Demeanor: Beatren are raised to be aggressive (especially toward Plark) and have a wide arsenal of weaponry. They don’t have the most cutting-edge technology in their fleet, but they’ve produced so many warships and guns that they are a force to be reckoned with. Not many species want to mess with the Beatren since they have a violent history with anything that may pose a threat to them. They have sworn alliance to the race that gave them their resources to form their first and only symbiotic relationship.

A Beatren is usually going to be intimidating and aggressive, but have sympathy for any member of their own race unless a potential mate is involved. If one would get to know a Beatren they would probably note their adventurousness and athleticism.

Technology: As explained before, Beatren aren’t the best contenders for developing the best technology, but what they do have the Beatren have hordes of. Their sheer size is notable, but their success is due to third-party involvement.
